Developmental editing is a form of writing support that comes into play before or during the production of a publishable manuscript, especially in the area of non-fiction writing. The editor will track the changes they've made to the document as well as comment on the manuscript for feedback. Developmental editing would include rewriting, sentence structure, character and plot development. Each manuscript would endure two (3) rounds of developmental editing, followed by a basic line edit, and finally a proofread.
